Ravenna DORA

Section 4301.82 of the Ohio Revised Code authorizes municipalities to create a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA).  Upon creation, an outdoor refreshment area allows patrons to legally walk around a designated outdoor area with an alcoholic beverage that has been served by a liquor-permit-holding establishment.  Patrons would be required to stay within a predetermined boundary, and only during locally established days/times/events.

The creation of the DORA is intended to serve as an economic tool to attract patrons to downtown Ravenna and highlight the area as a destination for dining and entertainment.  The purpose of this application is to request City Council approve a DORA in the City of Ravenna.

The following are some frequently asked questions related to a DORA:

  • What are the boundaries of the DORA?

  • Where can I purchase a DORA beverage?
      • There are three establishments that have the necessary qualifying liquor permits to serve DORA beverages
          • Tavern 1888
          • Cimmaron Lounge
          • West Main Street Winery & Brewery

  • When will the DORA be in effect?
      • Sunday through Saturday: 12:00PM to 11:00PM and events as permitted

  • Can I bring my own alcoholic beverage, pour it into a DORA cup, and walk around in the DORA?
      • No, only drinks purchased from qualified businesses within the DORA are allowed. No cans, glass bottles, or outside drinks are permitted within the boundaries.

  • Can I walk anywhere with my DORA cup?
      • Patrons can enjoy their beverage in public gathering spaces. Some non-alcohol serving businesses located within the DORA boundary may choose to allow DORA patrons to enter their establishment. Individual Downtown businesses may have separate DORA policies.

  • If you choose to consume alcohol, please do so responsibly, and never drink and drive! Always designate a sober driver or utilize a ride share program/taxi for a safe ride home.
