Building Department

The City of Ravenna Building Department exists to insure the regulations and laws concerning structures within the City are followed. Our goal is to support the safety and quality of life within our community. We strive to work in cooperation with residents, property owners and contractors toward the common goal of making Ravenna the most pleasant and safest community possible.

Permits

The Building Department is responsible for issuing permits for new construction as well as repairs, upgrades and/or additions to existing construction. Through this permit process the department is able to monitor and inspect these various projects to insure they meet or exceed all applicable building codes. This process helps to not only ensure the safety and well-being of our residents, but also aids in preserving the look and feel of our neighborhoods and business districts.

Visit our Permits Page for more information concerning the permit process and to download applications for various building permits.

The City of Ravenna has enacted a one-year Moratorium on storage units, storage facilities, storage pods and self-storage establishments. Click here for Ordinance No. 2023-024 for further details.

Property maintenance Enforcement

In addition to the building permit and corresponding inspection process, the Building Department employs a Property Maintenance Official who is tasked with insuring properties throughout our community are maintained in a manner so as to maintain property values and provide a pleasant living and working environment for all.

Visit our Property Maintenance Page for more information concerning current Property Maintenance regulations or to notify us of an existing property maintenance issue within the City.

 Planning & Zoning

Zoning regulations control the use of land and the development of buildings. For residents, zoning codes maintain the integrity and character of neighborhoods. For businesses, zoning helps business owners with relocation and expansion, ensuring that they are compliant every step of the way.
