About the Ravenna Police Department

The Ravenna City Police Department proudly serves the 11,500+ citizens of the City of Ravenna, with a staff of 27 sworn Law Enforcement Officers and 11 Communications Officers. The department is equipped with a state of the art computer aided dispatch system, mobile data terminals, enhanced 911, and other advanced technology to better serve its citizens. Our officers answer over 20,000 calls for service each year ranging from public assists such as vehicle lockouts to more serious criminal offenses such as assaults, burglaries and robberies. In case of more serious tactical incidents, the department belongs to Metro Swat which is a multi-jurisdictional agency that further enhances our response capabilities. The department works with a Federal Task Force through the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency), which investigates illegal drug activity in Ravenna and throughout the county.

A Message from the Chief

Our department works every day to protect and serve the people of Ravenna with professionalism, fairness, and respect.  We focus on preventing crime, addressing concerns quickly, and creating a safe environment for everyone who lives, works, or visits our city.

Strong connections with our community are the heart of what we do.  Through open communication, problem-solving, and a commitment to community policing, we aim to build trust and work side-by-side with our residents.  If you have a question, concern, or idea, we want to hear from you.

As Chief of Police, serving Ravenna is more than just a job – it’s personal.  I was born and raised here.  I take great pride in leading the dedicated men and women of the Ravenna Police Department, and I am fully committed to supporting them and the citizens we are honored to protect.

Sincerely,
Jake Smallfield

You guys flew drones into his house? Lol

Good job resolving this peacefully! Bruce would still have an Abrams staged on the front lawn.

Not releasing the name but the address is crazy. If this person was truly suicidal I’m very sure they do not want this business out there for their friends, family or coworkers to see. As they should also be respected on their behalf. Prayers to the family and person involved. I hope they get the help if needed.

Not releasing name but full address. Privacy should be FULL privacy.

Thank you for your compassionate handling of this situation. I hope he gets the help he needs.

Not sure why the address needed to be published on a very public platform?? This person is entitled to some sense of privacy during a mental health crisis. I’m glad the situation was de-escalated, but sharing their address publicly is unnecessary…

Good job boys

Compassion and training by professionals paid off by saving a life.

Well done! Those kinds of situations can go sideways so fast. I’m sure maintaining conversation made all the difference.

I’m shocked. Most police would not take it seriously.

I so glad it was safely and peaceably resolved. I pray that the person who was driven to such desperation finds peace and love and the knowledge that he is loved.

Hope he’s okay. It’s rough out here.

If one day, you are the person who this is about and you read this. I’m glad you’re still here. The world is better with you in it and Jesus loves you! Matthew 6:33

I hate to be the negative one here, but transporting him to university Hospital where he he’s taken back to a room and left there to his own defenses probably not the best idea but that’s what happens. Good job on the rescue part of the situation.

Fantastic work Ravenna Officers!

It is sad, that you go so deep into your mental health, that thinking being dead is better. I hope who ever it is finds what they need and know they are awesome, and this is just a dark moment in their life. Be kind, you never know what someone is going thru.

Prayers for this person.

Oh my goodness, that was my grandparents home, up until 1973. Thank you for taking such good care of a gentleman with obviously severe problems. You did everything the right way, preserving his dignity and your safety.

Thank you for handling a tense situation.

“The subject’s name is not being released at this time” but here’s his entire fucking address. Christ, Ravenna Police Department, you can do better than that.

Hope he gets the help he needs, and no one was harmed.

Thankful he's ok.

Why was this a posting? I am thankful to the professionalism of the police department. Great job

Great job RPD!

Fantastic work RPD!!!!!

The police department is just sharing the information. We believe the city does notify affected residents. Again, this is only for residents on S. Walnut from E. Harris to the dead end.

Does anyone know why this keeps happening?

Well damn,I thought everybody out here in ravenna had their own wells.🤦🏼‍♀🤦🏼‍♀🤦🏼‍♀🤡🤣

It's great to have these alerts. A text method would be best way to alert people.

Maybe go to a city meeting and inquire

I live on Pratt does this include me?

I thought that was why we had Constables..

There is a way to sign up for alerts from the city let me see if I can find it

Fake news

Weird the air quality was so bad last night and now this.?

Agree, this is not an effective way to notify residents. I don't watch FB constantly. Not even daily. There needs to be a better notification method.

Sue Sue Sue Ravenna/state officials need replacement This is an UnLawful City Notice. Facebook is not for the City to use as a Platform for sending out notices nor ANY government/state officials by ANY means Whoever is affected id be sue sue sueing

Not everyone HAS FACEBOOK yall have no problem with 4 bills a month PLUS TEXTS you need to do better!
