Design Review Commission

The Design Review Commission (DRC) is made up of eight (8) voting Board Members and one (1) non-voting member, that consist of owning a property in the Historic District, a resident who demonstrates an interest in historic preservation, specialists who include the professions of architecture, architectural history, history, archaeology, planning, or related disciplines, and a few others.  The DRC shall be an advisor to the Planning and Zoning Commission and to other officials and departments of the City regarding the protection of local cultural resources.

If you own a property that is in the Historic District (see map below), or is listed as a historic property, and you are wanting to make any changes or repairs to the facade of the property, you will need to reach out to our Building Department and speak with Mr. Bob Finney to determine if you will need to go before the DRC for approval.  If it is determined that you will need to appear before the DRC, please scroll to the bottom of the page and fill out the application.  Once the application has been completed and signed off, by the property owner, you will need to turn it in to the Building Department for review before the application can be reviewed by the DRC.

The DRC meets once a month, on the second Thursday of each month.  Applications are due no less than two (2) weeks prior to the meeting.  The applicant must provide a completed application, along with the renderings, of what your intent is with the property, i.e. install windows, repair roof/shingles, replace siding, etc.  Mr. Finney will receive those applications in the Building Department, located at 530 N. Freedom St., Ravenna, OH 44266, and will inform the applicant if it is necessary to come before the DRC to receive approval for the project.
